There are lots of suspects/a few possibilities/no clues and the mystery remains unsolved/a real head-scratcher/a sticky situation.
Maybe it was/Perhaps it was/Could it have been the dog/cat/neighbor's kid? Or was there a break-in/did someone sneak in/was this a carefully planned operation?
We may never know the true culprit/who ate all the cookies/what happened that night. But, one thing is for sure: we need to bake more cookies/keep a closer eye on things/be more careful next time.
